My husband came down with it first and I succumbed to it a few days later. The only good thing about being sick with the flu is that it forces you to slow down, rest and sleep.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3936\" title=\"Caring for the sick\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickbed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"429\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickbed.jpg 429w, https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickbed-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 429px) 100vw, 429px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When my husband was running 102 temperature, I began making soup, herbal teas, vegetable broths and tonics and stocking up just in case #1 care giver (me) ended up getting sick, which I did.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, I came across an old healing magazine published in 1976 that I subscribed to years ago when I was volunteering at an organic food co-opt in Hawaii. The little magazine was called Well~Being and I have managed to hang onto a couple of my favorites over the years.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3943\" title=\"Well~Being Magazine Cover\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/wellbeingmagazinecover.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"393\" height=\"475\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/wellbeingmagazinecover.jpg 393w, https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/wellbeingmagazinecover-248x300.jpg 248w, https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/wellbeingmagazinecover-260x315.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/wellbeingmagazinecover-140x170.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 393px) 100vw, 393px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I especially loved one of the articles titled &#8220;Caring For A Sick Friend&#8221;.\u00a0 The author of the article is unknown however the graphics were by Rosalie Kessing. I still find the\u00a0 information just as valid and important today as it was some thirty five years ago.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sorry that the print and images are blurry but the\u00a0 magazine is very old and the paper and print has faded somewhat over the years. I used Photo Shop to try and\u00a0 make it a little more legible.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3937\" title=\"caring for a sick friend\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickbed2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"238\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickbed2.jpg 301w, https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickbed2-300x237.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another interesting article in the same magazine mentions how President Ford&#8217;s administration was making plans to inoculate everyone in the U.S. against a viral infection call &#8220;Swine Flu&#8221;.\u00a0 Sound familiar! This article was published in August of 1976.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3933\" title=\"Caring for a sick friend\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickfriendpart11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"318\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickfriendpart11.jpg 318w, https:\/\/www.gaiasgarden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/sickfriendpart11-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 318px) 100vw, 318px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although our home has given way to clutter and neglect with cough drops, kleenex, nasal spray and\u00a0 empty\u00a0 tea cups littering every tabletop, I have found a sense of peace and resignation that this too will pass.<\/p>\n<p>Outside the sun is shining and I already feel a bit shinier because of it. xo<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong><em>thought for the day;<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The power of love to change bodies is legendary, built into folklore, common sense, and everyday experience.\u00a0 Love moves the flesh, it pushes matter around&#8230;.
