Wintry Thoughts & Musings

It is a quiet Saturday afternoon as I sit before my window staring out at the cold grey skies watching the rain fall. I take great comfort in being tucked away from the madness that ensues during the pre-Christmas sale days.

We had a really nice Thanksgiving with my husband’s family ~ laughing ~ talking ~ sharing our stories. ~ Simply wonderful!

Every year during the Holidays, I become a child again, seeing wonder and magic in each and everything. I especially love the slant of winter light falling through the windows, the smell of woodsmoke on a cold night and cuddling with someone I love.

Meanwhile our dining room table  has pearls, glass beads, gemstones piled up as the winter muse prompts me to create new necklaces.

I found some beautiful porcelain goddesses created by a ceramic artist several years ago and purchased the last four pendants he had left. They have been in storage for years . . .  lying there waiting …. waiting for me to bring them out into the light of day.

I strung one of the beautiful goddess pendants with silver and white freshwater pearls, faceted quartz bricolette teardrops, moonstone beads, white mother of pearl beads, stunning faceted clear quartz beads, sterling silver spacers and a sterling silver clasp.

The Winter Goddess necklace will be listed in my new Online Store in December.

Visions of a wintry landscape ~ The Winter Goddess weaves her magic into our lives as we turn inward. She is draped in a cloak of sparking snow and ice ~ tenderly watching over the dormant seeds sleeping beneath the frozen land.  Waiting ~ dreaming. . .

Sweet memories of winter ~ Ice-sickles hanging from bare tree limbs sparkling like diamonds beneath a full moon. The sound of cold snow crunching beneath my boots while carrying Christmas dinner up the mountain because the car couldn’t make it up the frozen road to our home and the wild crazy snow rides down the mountain on a make shift snow sleigh.

Loreena McKennitt – In The Bleak Midwinter

A Winter Poem

All the complicated details
of the attiring and
the dis-attiring are completed!
A liquid moon
moves gently among
the long branches.
Thus having prepared their buds
against a sure winter
the wise trees
stand sleeping in the cold.
~ William Carlos Williams

Wintry Cold Day

The days have begun to get colder and colder and I find myself embracing this time of wintry quietude. I love the changing of the seasons especially winter with it’s pearl grey skies and bare tree branches. Most of all I love curling up under a mound of blankets with a mug of hot chocolate to watch the stars come out and dream of faraway places.

As I sit here and write this post the rain has begun to gently fall on the naked earth below my window. The day grows dark and dusky outside and it is time for me to light the candles, brew some tea and listen to the rain.

Embracing this time of quiet & reflection.

A secret place where I can wish and dream

Have a lovely weekend. x0

Before I go here is something to cheer you on this dark, cold Friday night.

“It snowed and snowed, the whole world over,
Snow swept the world from end to end.
A candle burned on the table;
A candle burned.”

As Mr Dahl once said…
“And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”

When was the last time you walked in an enchanted forest?

Robert Louis Stevenson ~ “It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men’s hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanates from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit”

Art & Joy

Things I did Today …

Created some lovely new pieces of jewelry for the Holidays.

After playing around with some new designs for bangle bracelets. I found some kyanite beads in my bead drawer and became completely mesmerized by their beauty. I layed out some freshwater pearl strands, two toned Czech glass beads and copper wire and let creativity flow through me like a river.

When creating, I find I become more centered in the process and more attentive to my inner voice as my work merges and changes from one thing into another. I admit some days are better than others regardless of the outcome, I always feel more alive, more joyful, more aware and more complete.

thought for the day; “The Artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place. From the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spiders web….” ~ Pablo Picasso

Friends & Gratitude

Yesterday, a friend  invited me out to lunch at our favorite cafe. When I arrived, she was already there and had created sacred space for our little get together. There was a lovely candle surrounded by a small crystal, a heart shaped stone, yummy homemade brownies and her beautiful Angel cards.

What a beautiful … thoughtful thing to do.

I am filled with gratitude to have such friends~  sharing stories ~ laughter and joy

We the people of the world need to heal our relationship with our mother earth as well as one another.  And we must also carry this message of love with an opened heart to the four corners of the earth. Blessings, Rose

“Those of us who consider ourselves to be somehow involved in the birthing of a new age, should discover Gaia as well. The idea of Gaia may facilitate the task of converting destructive human activities to constructive and cooperative behavior. It is an idea which deeply startles us, and in the process, may help us as a species to make the necessary jump to planetary awareness.”
